GREEN TURTLE HERO DAY AT NGUYEN VAN BE MIDDLE SCHOOL: WHEN ENVIRONMENTAL LESSONS STEP INTO REALITY
On the morning of May 21st, the schoolyard of Nguyen Van Be Middle School became more vibrant than ever as it welcomed the arrival of Green Turtle Hero Day (AHRX). Leaving dry textbook theories behind, the event brought a high-energy, hands-on experience, helping 6th-grade students approach environmental protection lessons in the most natural and exciting way.
To become true “Green Heroes,” the children had to conquer challenges across three unique stations, combining three essential elements: Brain Power (Knowledge) — Eco-Athletes (Fitness) — Green Voice (Creativity).
Station 1: Brain Power — Understanding Right to Act Tight
We often mindlessly toss a plastic straw, a water bottle, or an old battery into the trash without asking: Where will they go, and how long will they last? The first stop, named Brain Power, helped students find the answers through highly relatable “learn-through-play” activities.
Round 1 – Fast Reflexes: Two teams constantly competed to raise their hands and answer questions about the current state of littering and the impacts of pollution on the ecosystem.
Round 2 – Flashcard Matching: The schoolyard atmosphere heated up as the students took on the challenge of matching different types of waste with their actual decomposition times.
Startling figures such as 12 years for a cigarette butt, 450 years for a plastic bottle, or even millions of years for glass helped the children realize the excessively long lifespans of items they only use for a few minutes. Through these firsthand experiences, the lesson on reducing plastic waste became more practical than ever.
Station 2: Eco-Athletes — Physical Strength to Turn Awareness into Action
Having the right environmental awareness is just the beginning. The journey to protect our green Earth is a long chặng, requiring the younger generation to have both physical strength and endurance to turn thoughts into real action.
At the Eco-Athletes station, the schoolyard of Nguyen Van Be Middle School was transformed into a high-energy “green racetrack.” The students dove headfirst into fun physical challenges to train their fitness and teamwork skills.
Those tiring yet laughter-filled runs were the clearest proof: when there is enough determination, energy, and enduring solidarity, joining hands to keep our living environment clean becomes easier and more joyful than ever!
Station 3: Green Voice — Creating New Perspectives to Spread Green Messages
Protecting the environment doesn’t have to be something grand. Sometimes, it simply starts with the way we inspire people around us through our own creativity.
At the final stop — Green Voice, the schoolyard turned into a free art space. From sketchy drawings and vibrant colors to cute slogans, lessons about Earth suddenly transformed into lively paintings and messages with a strong personal touch from the 6th graders.
Each completed painting is a green message sent out, opening up hopeful visions of a future generation that thinks, cares, and stands ready to act for our planet.
